Fencing Training Kit

A modular, quick mount weighted training system for fencing athletes, designed to improve wrist, finger, and blade control while preserving authentic fencing motion.

Problem & Research

With 10+ years of competitive fencing experience, I observed a training gap:

fencers often rely on improvised resistance methods to build wrist, finger, and blade control.

Fencers need sport specific strength training. This is often done with makeshift solutions. A dedicated counterweight offers a more efficient and specialized approach.

Design Process

- Handle Redesign -

Fencing has long been perceived as a niche sport, often confined to professional arenas. By redesign the handle to emphasize performance with a sleek, modern look, which can bring the fencing into the public eye.

Prototype

To validate the product beyond digital models, I built a series of physical prototypes using plastic 3D printing, metal 3D printing, and CNC machining. Each process helped test a different aspect of the system, from form and fit to weight, balance, and structure.

- CNC -

Raw aluminum stock was sourced and CNC machined to create a more accurate functional prototype.

- 3D Printing Metal -

Stainless steel 3D printing was used to produce the modular weight components with real material density and structural strength. Stainless steel allowed me to test the actual weight, balance, and durability of the system.

- Lathe -

Aluminum parts were first turned on a lathe to achieve the basic size and cylindrical form, then CNC machined to create grooves and alignment details. PLA 3D printed components were used to connect the parts
